Russell Moore


Russell Moore is President of the ERLC. In this role, he leads the organization in all its efforts to connect the agenda of the kingdom of Christ to the cultures of local congregations for the sake of the mission of the gospel in the world. He holds a Ph.D. in systematic theology from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where prior to this role, he served as Senior Vice President for Academic Administration and Dean of the School of Theology. Before entering ministry, Dr. Moore was an aide to U.S. Congressman Gene Taylor. A native Mississippian, he and his wife Maria are the parents of five boys. Read more here.

Phillip Bethancourt


Phillip Bethancourt is Executive Vice President of the ERLC. He leads the ERLC team to develop innovative strategies to equip churches to address the key moral and ethical issues of the day. Prior to this role, Phillip served as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Assistant Professor of Christian Theology at Southern Seminary. He completed an MDiv and PhD in Systematic Theology at Southern after attending Texas A&M University. Phillip and his wife, Cami, have been married since 2005, and have three boys.

Barrett Duke


Barrett Duke has served in the ERLC’s Washington office as Vice President for Public Policy and Research since 2003. He came to the ERLC’s Nashville office in 1997 after serving as founding pastor of a church in Colorado. Barrett holds a BA from Criswell College, an MA from Denver Seminary, and a PhD from the Iliff School of Theology and the University of Denver. He and his wife, Denise, have three grown children.

Bobby Reed


Bobby Reed serves as our Vice President for Business and Finance. His primary responsibilities are financial oversight, human resources, and administrative business functions. Bobby, a graduate of Louisiana State University, came to the ERLC in 1999 after serving on the staff of churches in Louisiana and Florida. He and his wife, Louise, have four children.

Dan Darling


Daniel Darling is the Vice President for Communications. He previously served five years as Senior Pastor of Gages Lake Bible Church. He is a contributor to Leadership Journal, Homelife,, Stand Firm,” and a variety of other evangelical publications. He has written several books, including his latest, Activist Faith. Daniel Patterson


Daniel Patterson serves as Chief of Staff at the ERLC. In this role, he directs the executive office of the president and helps lead strategic initiatives designed to engage the broader culture and equip local congregations. Previously, he served as assistant to the provost at Southern Seminary and assistant editor of The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology. He holds an MDiv from Southern Seminary, where he is also completing a PhD in Systematic Theology. A native Tennessean and lifelong Southern Baptist, he has been married to his wife Molly since 2010, and together they have one daughter, Emma.

Edgar Aponte


Edgar Aponte joined the ERLC in 2014. He is a consultant for the ERLC on strategies to serve and equip Hispanic churches on ethical issues. He also serves as director of Hispanic leadership development at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to earning a master of divinity at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, he was a foreign diplomat for the Dominican Republic.

Elizabeth Bristow


Elizabeth Bristow came to the ERLC in 2010 after graduating from Union University. She serves as the press secretary and primarily handles media relations and other PR initiatives for the organization. She and her husband, Nathaniel, married in November 2012.

Doug Carlson


Doug Carlson came to the ERLC in 2004 and serves as the Leland House’s Office Manager, overseeing the administrative and organizational needs of the Washington office. A Fort Wayne, Ind., native, Doug attended Word of Life Bible Institute and received his B.S. from Liberty University and his Master of Public Policy from George Mason University.

Joe Carter


Joe Carter serves as Director of Communications. Before joining the ERLC in 2013, Joe worked in a variety of positions in media, policy, and politics. He and his wife, Misty, have one daughter, Samantha.

Sam Dahl


Sam Dahl is the Executive Assistant to the President and coordinates the calendar and logistics of the president’s day-to-day schedule. Sam has been serving at the ERLC since 2011. He is a graduate of Union University, where he received a degree in Christian Ethics, and is currently pursuing his MDiv at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Sam has been married to his wife, Cheryl, since 2013.

Marie Delph


Marie Delph came to the ERLC in 2010, having previously served three years as a writer for the International Mission Board. Marie is part of the communications team, where she serves as the deputy communications director. Her primary duties are editing, writing, social media management and web support. Marie moved to the Nashville area in 2009 when she married her husband, Zach.

Elizabeth Graham

Elizabeth Graham joined the ERLC in 2014. She is an event and conference coordinator. Elizabeth holds a master’s degree in biblical counseling from Southeastern Theological Seminary. She also serves in the office of SEBTS’s Executive Vice President Ryan Hutchinson.

Matthew Hawkins


Matthew Hawkins serves as Coalitions Director, working with other groups in Washington, D.C., to achieve common objectives. After graduating from Belmont University, he joined the ERLC’s Nashville office to assist with broadcast efforts in 2001. Matt and his wife, Crystal, live in Arlington, VA, and are members of a DC church plant, where Matt serves as a deacon. He is presently studying ethics and public affairs at George Mason University.

Alli Hill


Alli Hill joined the ERLC in 2014. She is part of the communications team, primarily offering design and content services. Alli is a public relations graduate from Union University in Jackson, Tenn.

Stacey Keck

Stacey Keck came to the ERLC in 2008. She works on a part-time basis in the business and finance area, preparing payroll, accounts payable and assisting with other accounting functions. She and her husband, Bryan, were married in 1992 and are busy raising two boys.

Gary Lancaster

Gary Lancaster has been serving the ERLC since 2011. His main focus is producing various digital media, and producing and editing audio content. Gary is a graduate of Belmont University and divides his time between the ERLC and Nashville’s music industry. He and his wife, Jeri, are Texans at heart and the proud parents of two.

Kevin Miller

Kevin Miller joined the ERLC in 2014. He serves as a video editor while also working at NewsChannel 5 as a technical operator. Kevin also servers as main videographer and editor at his church. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Electronic Media Communication Production.

Trillia Newbell


Trillia Newbell serves as the Consultant for Women’s Initiatives. She has a degree in political science from the University of Tennessee and is an author and freelance journalist. She is a contributor to the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, Desiring God, and The Gospel Coalition. Trillia is married to Thern, and they have two children.

Tom Strode


Tom Strode, who joined the ERLC staff in 1990, serves as Washington correspondent for Baptist Press. Tom and his wife, Linda, have been married since 1978. They have two children, who have wonderful spouses, and three grandchildren.

Lindsay Swartz


Lindsay Swartz joined the ERLC team in 2014 as the managing editor of content. She previously served at Revive Our Hearts. Lindsay completed her Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

David Toney


David Toney joined the ERLC in 2011 after graduating from Houston Baptist University. He serves as the administrative assistant to Leland House. He is currently studying to earn a Master of Public Policy from George Mason University.

Jill Waggoner


Jill Waggoner joined the staff of the ERLC in 2005 after graduating from Union University. Jill assists the communications team with public relations, marketing strategies, and event planning. She is a pastor’s wife, tennis player and mom to a very busy little boy.

Andrew Walker


Andrew Walker (Ph.D. candidate, Ethics and Public Policy, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) serves the ERLC as Director of Policy Studies. His responsibilities include policy and cultural analysis, policy communication, content production and coalitions. Andrew came to the ERLC from The Heritage Foundation in August 2013. He is a graduate of Southwest Baptist University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is married to Christian, and they have one daughter.

Rachel Wiles


A graduate of Union University, Rachel Wiles began serving at the ERLC in 2005. Her primary responsibility is project management. She and her husband, Brad, are parents of two children.
